Mandala Journaling
I first learned the process I use for mandala journaling from music therapist Sophia Morreale. I begin each session by taking out a piece of paper with an empty circle drawn on it. First, I write down my intention- an issue or feeling that I would like to explore. Then I meditate, sometimes listening to music but more often in silence, until an image for in my mind and I know that it’s time to start drawing. This image may be based on either my external surroundings or internal landscape. When I have finished the mandala, I inquire what the mandala has to teach me and write down what I’ve learned. When I do a series of mandalas, I identify the place in my mandala that has the greatest energy and then use some element of this place- an image, shape or color- to begin my next meditation.
